The Diagnostic Medical Sonongraphy (DMS) program prepares individuals for entry-level employment in a general ultrasound department. Major duties of the Sonographer include performing abdominal, obstetrical, and gynecologic imaging, superficial structure imaging, and limited vascular ultrasound imaging. Individuals considering this career will operate high technology equipment while working with patients who may be sick, disabled, and/or dependent. Students will apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology to the human body for success in this program. Program students will participate in a seven-month internship during the second year that will likely require relocating. Advanced standing status in this program is available for persons with a minimum of two years of education in allied health, such as Radiography or Nursing. Graduates will be prepared and therefore eligible to complete the national registry examination in ultrasound physics, obstetrics/gynecology, and abdominal ultrasound (ARDMS Boards).
