Students also learn to recognize and address co-factors which increase the risk of infection, such as alcohol and drug use, sexual abuse and assault, low self-esteem and poor communication skills. Many program graduates pursue careers in HIV/STD prevention working for community-based organizations and Health Departments. Others become Community Health Workers, Drug and Alcohol Counselors, sex educators, nurses, social workers and members of other helping professions .
