Your courses will address: fundamental skills; diversity and cultural psychology; ethics and law; grief and loss; family systems; research; human development; psychopathology and psychopharmacology; testing and assessment; psychotherapy theory; group counselling; psychological trauma; and addictions. Advanced courses apply this knowledge to couples counselling, thesis research, the psychology of aging, working with youth, and practicum experience. Through internships, you will gain practical experience in your area of interest while you network with other professionals in the local mental health and social service systems. Become a counsellor or therapist qualified for professional registration. Completion of a recognized master's degree is a requirement for professional registration and a key step on the road to career advancement. Graduates of the CityU counseling program, work in community agencies, private practice, colleges and universities, health care facilities, government departments, and employee assistance programs.
