The Medical Assistant program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, on recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants' Endowment (AAMAE). PROGRAM prerequisiteS Admission to the Medical Assistant program is during spring term to enroll for fall term classes. Admission is by special application only. Specific skill levels are required in reading, writing and math. Placement tests are required prior to admission to the program. Prerequisites: WR-101 or WR-121 and SP-100 or SP-218 must be completed prior to applying for the Medical Assistant program. Applicants are advised that there is a certain level of dexterity and physical strength involved for successful completion of the program. A physical examination by a licensed healthcare provider, immunizations and a criminal history background check are required. Drug testing will be required. Students will participate in unpaid, supervised externships in the ambulatory care setting. PROGRAM OUTCOMES Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) National Certification exam. Students will be prepared for entry-level employment as a medical assistant. CAREERS Career opportunities may include but are not limited to: employment in the ambulatory care setting, employment in the acute care setting, insurance billing and coding, administration and phlebotomy.
