The Fitness Trainer program is designed to pre-pare students for employment as personal fitness trainers. Students will develop knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for working with clients who are interested in improving their health and fit-ness. Coursework will include both theory and practical application courses related to fitness training. Student Learning Outcomes Demonstrate an understanding of exercise science principles re-lated to health, fitness and performance. Assess client health , nutrition and exercise behavior. Motivate clients to adopt healthier behaviors through appropriate communication strategies. Assess blood pressure, body composition, cardio-respiratory fit-ness, flexibility and muscular strength/ endurance. Design fitness plans for healthy adults, special populations (e.g. pregnant women, elderly, those with chronic diseases, etc.) and performance-oriented clients (e.g. those training to better per-form a sport) utilizing appropriate principles of safe and effective exercise prescription. Correctly demonstrate a variety of exercises, as well as identify and correct common errors in exercise technique. Exhibit professional skills necessary to be successful as a personal trainer.
