Physical Therapist Assistant from Colby Community College is a Campus Associate Physical Therapy degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. The Physical Therapist Assistant is a key member of the health care team, specially trained to work under the supervision of the physical therapist. PTA's are employed in hospitals, clinics, private offices, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and schools for disabled children. The field of physical therapy continues to grow nationwide, bringing with it demand for trained professionals. The PTA program is planned in accordance with the established standards of the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. CCC has had an accreditated program since 1975 and is currently accreditated until spring of 2016. The faculty are dedicated and qualified. They have a combined 30 years experience in education and 21 years of full time clinical experience. Upon satisfactory completion of this program, the student receives an Associate in Applied Science degree and qualifies to take a state certification examination. The curriculum is arranged in a 1+1 format. The freshman year (Pre-PTA) is open to all students and consists of pre-requisite courses. Admission to the sophomore year is limited to 24 students. Applications are available in February and due by the middle of March. In April a selection process occurs on campus, and includes several interviews, GPA for core courses, points for gaining experience/observation, and a written essay. Selection is based on a 52 point scale with 39 points being the minimum requirement. Students learn the full range of support skills necessary for professional practice. The laboratory experience and available equipment provide opportunity for hands-on, supervised training in a controlled healthcare setting. Student clinical experiences include 17 weeks of full time clinical work. They are completed in a variety of professional settings in a variety of states, border to border and coast to coast. The PTA Program has a 21% (three year average) attrition rate in the sophomore year. There have been 646 graduates since 1975. The board pass rate for the 2005 class was 100% (12/12). This ever-changing healthcare field does not guarantee placement at every location, but it does offer a wealth of rewards when employed. The last three graduating classes have been 100% employed within 6 months of graduation. Current starting wages range from $15-$20 per hour in Kansas and neighboring states.
