After completing the program, interns receive a verification statement of program completion and are eligible to take the national examination to become a Registered Dietitian (RD). The program provides a choice of two concentration areas: Nutrition Education and Counseling (NEC) and Food and Nutrition Business and Communications (FNBC). The program is designed to ensure training and skills in the practice competencies established for entry-level dietitians. The dietitian's professional role is to promote and provide optimal nutrition, health and well-being of every individual based on sound science and evidence-based practice. The dietitian's unique education includes knowledge of food, human nutrition, management principles, the biological sciences, behavioral and social sciences, with a liberal arts foundation. Supervised practical experience, national registration certification and professional competency requirements equip the registered dietitian (RD) to provide food and nutrition services to the public through various employment environments such as community education and public health, foodservice management, healthcare and business and industry.
