Culinary Arts from College of Southern Idaho is a Campus Associate Food degree that prepares you for a Vocational Programs career. The College of Southern Idaho's Culinary Arts goal is to offer a program that prepares students for a successful career in the rapidly expanding field of Food Service. The program introduces students to the basic philosophies of the food industry and gives a general understanding of Culinary Arts and Food Service. Upon completion of the program, graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree . The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the industry. The educational process takes place in small classes which encourages student participation. Faculty members are recruited on the basis of successful experience as well as teaching excellence. The course begins with basic introductions and continues into each area of Culinary Arts , including fry-line cooking, sandwich prep, sauces, accounting, food and beverage controls, purchasing, service, sanitation, and much more. Classroom learning is combined with actual application practiced during working lab periods at local restaurants during the school year. Students must fulfill an internship by securing employment at a hospitality property during the summer between their first and second year. Interesting field trips and guest speakers included in the curriculum give students added perspective and insight into the world of Culinary Arts. An integral part of success in the Culinary Arts field is communication, computer applications, mathematics, leadership, supervisory and professional development skills.
