Research The department conducts research in a wide variety of areas generally related to, but not restricted to, applied geophysics. There are a variety of research centers and projects within the department, including: Center for Wave Phenomena (CWP) Reservoir Characterization Project (RCP) Rock Physics Laboratory Environmental Geophysics Group The Gravity and Magnetics Research Consortium Center for Petrophysics (CENPET) Physical Acoustics Laboratory (PAL) In addition, faculty and graduate students from the Department of Geophysics work closely with other departments across campus to develop interdisciplinary approaches for solving geoscience and geo-engineering problems. Degree Program The department offers the Master of Science in Geophysics . The student selects the program of study in consultation with an advisor and approval from the thesis committee. Master of Science The M.S. degree requires 26 credit hours of coursework accompanied by a minimum of 12 credit hours of research leading to the successful writing and defense of a master's thesis. The thesis topic must be appropriate for inclusion as part of an engineering degree.
