The BS in Engineering with specialization in mechatronics is a flexible, broad degree that prepares graduates to work in many industries. General engineering education covers topics that prepare you to be a broadly educated engineer: math, physics, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, computer programming, and electrical circuits. The program includes communication skills as well as general education requirements. The mechatronics engineering specialization includes the following courses: electronics electromechanical devices microprocessors control systems robotics manufacturing processes computer integrated manufacturing quality control & reliability engineering economy senior design project The BSE program has the following educational objectives and outcomes, as initially approved and reviewed annually by the BSE Advisory Board. BSE graduates should have: (a) an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering (b) an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data (c) an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs. (d) an ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams (e) an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems (f) an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility (g) an ability to communicate effectively (h) the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context (i) a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning (j) a knowledge of contemporary issues (k) an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice. During the first few years after graduation, BSE graduates should be able to conduct low-level designs and modifications of mechatronic systems, trouble shoot and support existing mechatronic systems, work directly with suppliers and customers of mechatronic systems, manage small and support large engineering projects, assume ownership and accountability for engineering projects, function well on teams of engineers with different skill levels, implement basic quality control principles, write sound technical documents such as requests for proposals, grant applications, project specifications, and technical reports, continue their education at the graduate level, and obtain additional engineering certifications.
