As a Medical Assistant , you will be an integral part of the health care delivery team. In this position, you are considered a "multi-tasked" provider. This means you will be trained and qualified in both clinical and administrative capacities. Medical Assistants work closely with doctors in clinics and physician's offices. You will be entrusted with a variety of critical responsibilities. Administrative skills and responsibilities include scheduling and receiving patients, preparing and maintaining medical records, performing basic front office skills, handling telephone calls and written correspondence, serving as a liaison between physicians and other individuals, and managing practice finances. Clinical responsibilities include taking patient histories and vital signs, performing first aid and CPR, preparing patients for procedures, assisting the physician with examinations and treatments, infection control, collecting and processing specimens, performing selected diagnostic tests, and preparing and administering medications as directed by the physician. How long is the program? Our Medical Assistant program is 30 weeks long. Will I receive hands-on, real world job experience? In addition to the realistic clinical environment Concorde provides, we also offer a hands-on working experience called an externship. Our Medical Assistant externship consists of 240 clinical hours. What skills will I learn? Clinical: CPR Taking patient histories Take and document vital signs Take EKGs Administer injections Venipunctures (drawing blood/Phlebotomy) Assist in cast application and removal Assist in minor surgery Instrument usage and sterilization procedures Patient preparation Perform basic lab procedures Perform diagnostic procedures, including EKGs and limited x-rays Administrative: Patient charting Appointment scheduling Patient Billing and Fee Collections Medical Insurance Coding and Filing Accounting practices to include payroll Computers Medical records management Where can I work? Generally Medical Assistants work in ambulatory settings, such as medical offices and clinics. You may work in the front office with duties ranging from telephone communications to medical records management and insurance processing.
