Physical Education and Health is dedicated to helping students become skilled professionals who will exert positive leadership in their fields of work and be effective participants in their communities. Concordia offers majors in physical education and health education. These programs are designed primarily for students who plan careers as teachers, coaches or youth leaders. An exercise science major and a nonteaching health major are also offered for students interested in careers in community health , health promotion, sports medicine or health clubs. In conjunction with a major in another academic area, a four-course sequence enables students to complete a coaching concentration. Concordia Benefits Small classes provide individual attention from expert, caring faculty experienced in all aspects of health, physical education and exercise science. Concordia has one of the largest physical education and health programs of all private colleges in Minnesota. Concordia is one of only six Minnesota colleges and universities with a nationally approved health education program. Physical education teaching majors learn the rules and techniques of sports; the methods used in teaching and coaching; the mechanics of human motion; and the fundamentals of health , safety and first aid. Students have opportunities to make practical use of the methods and perspectives learned in the classroom by assisting faculty in teaching general physical education courses, gaining actual experience in coaching through practicums, and assisting in intramural sports and intercollegiate athletics.
