Certified Nursing Assistant & Home Health Aide from Contra Costa College is a Campus Certificate Clinical Nurse degree that prepares you for a Nursing career. Contra Costa College's Certified Nursing Assistant/ Home Health Aide program is designed to train the individual to function as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and a Home Health Aide (HHA). This individual will work as part of a health team, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a health care agency or private home. The program was developed in response to the increased demand by health care agencies for Certified Nursing Assistants and Home Health Aides, and will emphasize the role, responsibility, and accountability of these positions. The program, which meets standards set by federal and state regulations, includes six units of theory and six units of clinical experience. The core curriculum is based on the modules required by the Department of Health Services and Title 22. These are: Communication Skills Ethical and Legal Implications Patient's Rights Basic Skills Infection Death and Dying This is a non-degree credit program. Students who complete it will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. Successful completion of The Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide program will qualify the individual to take the state certification examination. Completion of this test with a passing grade will qualify the individual for employment in acute care , long term care, and in a home. Employment Opportunities Demand for certified nursing assistants and home health aides continues to increase. Projections for the year 2001 indicate a 30% increase in the use of certified nursing assistants, and an 80% increase in the use of home health aides. This program will provide individuals with the training necessary to qualify for jobs in this plentiful market, and will provide a base for upward mobility into the health care field.
