It is composed of medical assisting, health sciences and general education curriculum. The medical assistant plays a key role in our nation's health care system. The administrative assistant is responsible for office management in medical practices, and the clinical assistant performs duties in a variety of settings including hospitals, physicians' offices, and other health care facilities. Students in the medical assisting program will learn all the various aspects of serving a medical office , including: medical office practice; communicating with patients and their families; coordinating and supervising the office staff; records organization; preparing and maintaining patient records; letter writing and mail handling; telephone management; billing and collections; basic accounting and bookkeeping; insurance processing; and assisting physicians with professional activities. On the clinical side, students will learn skills including: assisting with physical measurements, such as vital signs, height and weight; preparing health history; preparing for and assisting with physical exams; infection control practices; diagnostic allergy tests and intradermal skin tests electrocardiography; common emergencies and first aid; medical terminology; principles of pharmacology and drug administration; diagnostic radiology, and much more. Career Opportunities Students who complete this program may find work as administrative assistants in medical offices or hospitals, office managers, or receptionists, or as clinical assistants in a variety of settings, including hospitals, physicians' offices, and other allied health care facilities.
