Employment opportunities include child development and child care programs, preschools, public and private schools, recreational centers, Head Start Programs, and school-age programs. The Teacher Associate program focuses on preparing adults to work as primary and/or elementary grade level teacher assistants in public or private schools. Students complete extensive practicum experiences in primary/elementary school settings. Graduates demonstrate competence in assessing children and planning and implementing appropriate learning experiences for children at the preschool, primary, and elementary levels. Integration of employability skills such as demonstrating dependable and accountable behavior, working collaboratively with others, and effective time management is designed to ensure that graduates are prepared to assist and support public school teachers in their multiple roles. Competencies Upon the successful completion of this program, the graduate should possess the knowledge, skills and attitudes to: 1. Communicate effectively orally and in writing with children, parents, coworkers, and the public. 2.
