A broad-based core of courses, including basic electricity, solid-state fundamentals, digital concepts, and microprocessors, ensures the student will develop the skills necessary to perform entry-level tasks. Emphasis is placed on developing the student's ability to analyze and troubleshoot electronic systems. Graduates should qualify for employment as engineering assistants or electronic technicians with job titles such as electronics engineering technician , field service technician, maintenance technician , electronic tester, electronic systems integrator, bench technician, and production control technician . Competencies Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to: 1. Demonstrate the personal and interpersonal skills needed to perform successfully as an entry level electronic technician. 2. Use basic test equipment and measuring instruments, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers. 3. Use basic theorems of DC and AC network analysis to design, analyze, and troubleshoot electronic systems. 4. Demonstrate understanding and use of basic electronic components, including semiconductor devices, operational amplifiers, and linear integrated circuits in power supplies, amplifiers, and control circuits. 5. Design, build, and analyze combinational and sequential logic circuits. Implement a basic microprocessor system that incorporates RAM and EPROM memory, input and output ports, and specialized interfacing components. 6. Program a microcomputer to perform control operations in C and assembly language. Use C to implement programming solutions. 7. Demonstrate an understanding of AM and FM, single-sideband, television, and digital communications systems. 8. Access and utilize technical information sources such as data, books, the Internet, and other people. 9. Capture, organize, and effectively document laboratory experiences in oral, written, and graphical form. 10. Install, service, and maintain computer systems and attain certification. 11. Install, service, and maintain computer networks and attain certification. 12. Install, service, and maintain microprocessor and computer controlled equipment and attain certification.
