We teach students to read and write the English language with greater fluency, creativity, and accuracy. The Department offers degree in English: M.Ed. The M.Ed. degree leads to a Mississippi Class AA Teaching License, and it is often used to enter the teaching profession at a community college. In fact, most of our graduates with an English degree enter the teaching profession at some level. Our students also do very well in graduate school. Many are accepted into graduate programs, win fellowships, and earn advanced degrees, including the Ph.D. However, several other professional opportunities are available. For example, many of our graduates have gone on to law school and are now practicing attorneys. Others go into public relations and journalism, and some join the ranks of the clergy. As you pursue an English degree at Delta State, you will experience a traditional private-college, liberal-arts education on a public university campus. The student-to-teacher ratio is low in every class, and the faculty is very accessible for one-on-one instruction. We feature a very accomplished faculty.
