Objectives 1.To familiarize students with the major aspects, techniques, and directions in their chosen medium or media 2.To guide students in achieving the highest possible level of technical skill in the medium and its expressive possibilities 3.To provide students with opportunities for independent study with appropriate evaluation upon completion. 4.To provide students with facilities to exhibit their work and to have it critiqued and discussed. 5.To provide comprehensive courses in the history of art to enable students to analyze works of art perceptively and to evaluate them critically. 6.To help students develop an understanding of the common elements and vocabulary of art and of the interaction of these elements, and be able to employ this knowledge in analysis. 7.To place works of art in historical and stylistic context and have some understanding of the cultural milieu in which they were created. 8.To enable students to form and defend value judgments about the historical development of works within their specialization.
