Healthcare Ethics Master from Duquesne University details

Program Format: Campus Program Level: Master

Healthcare Ethics from Duquesne University is a Campus Master Health Administration degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Mission Statement The Graduate Programs in Healthcare Ethics are a response to a fast-growing need in American health care . The last half-century has seen a startling increase in attention given to bioethical issues. What was once largely an intra-religious discipline, primarily Roman Catholic and Jewish, has now emerged as a multi-disciplinary and highly influential field of study. Law, communication, politics, economics and other fields have joined theology and philosophy in investigating the ethics of health care. The federal Joint Commission on Accrediting Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) continues to place increased emphasis on an institution's capacity to provide policies and case-based attention both to clinical and to organizational aspects of ethics. The purpose of the Center for Healthcare Ethics at Duquesne University is to offer a systematic way to prepare persons for this growing field. Four different levels of engagement are available, ranging from a Distance Learning Graduate Certificate Program to the Ph.D. degree . We draw explicitly from both the Catholic and the Jewish ethical traditions, as well as from secular bioethics. Our faculty includes persons trained in and credentialed in philosophy, theology (both Jewish and Roman Catholic) and law, as well as in various clinical areas. All course instructors have doctorates. Students take both academic courses and clinical practica and internships to ensure a grasp of both theoretical and practical elements. The programs are intended both for those who plan a career in higher education, teaching and doing research in the ethics of health care , and for clinicians who wish a credentialed career- enhancing expertise in ethics. Among our students are practicing nurses, physicians, therapists, chaplains and social workers, theologians and philosophers, law school and medical school students, health care administrators, and university faculty. They come from many countries in different continents. Our ultimate goal is to contribute to the awareness within health care of the importance of ethics and thus in the end to make health care better. View more details on Duquesne University .
