Communications and Media Arts from Dutchess Community College is a Campus Associate Media Studies degree that prepares you for a Communications career. The Communications and Media Arts program is designed for those who have an interest in the mass media, especially in video, audio and visual effects for moving image productions. Students may select courses among three production areas: Video, Audio, nad Visual Effects for the Moving Image. Through an organized program of study, students are provided with comprehensive critical theory combined with practical applications for creative expression and professional standards. Graduates will be prepared for positions in television, video or film production facilities, radio, audio recording studios, news media , web design, etc. or to transfer to four-year colleges. The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree is awarded upon completion of the requirements for this program. Graduates of the COM program will: Produce a body of work suitable for transfer to a four-year institution and/or professional opportunities in their chosen field of communications and media arts. Solve creative problems within their field of communications and media arts, including research and synthesis of technical, aesthetic and conceptual knowledge. Effectively communicate their ideas professionally and connect with their intended audience using visual, oral and written presentation skills relevant to their field. Effectively execute technical, aesthetic and conceptual decisions based upon an understanding of communications and media arts principles. Evaluate work in their field, including their own work, using professional terminology. Explain the influence of major cultural and aesthetic trends, both historical and contemporary, on communications and media arts venues. List and execute the professional skills and behaviors necessary to compete in the local, national and/or global marketplace for the communications and media arts industry.
