General Psychology Industrial/Organizational Psychology from East Carolina University is a Campus Master Organizational Psychology degree that prepares you for a Psychology career. The I/O Psychology concentration at East Carolina University trains students to apply scientific solutions to the workplace. I/O is a 45 semester hour Master's program where students are provided with the tools to work in industrial and organizational settings. The department currently has four I/O psychology faculty members. An essential part of the program is an internship (occurring during the summer between a student's 1st and 2nd year). The internship provides students with an opportunity to apply skills learned through course work and to acquire new skills in an organizational setting. The internship may require students to relocate. The master's thesis is a professional research paper and an example of the student's research skills and ability to write an organized research report. The student will defend the completed thesis at an oral examination conducted by the thesis committee. Employment Opportunities Employment opportunities are varied and include both public and private sector jobs in areas such as personnel research, wage and salary administration, human resource development, statistics, personnel management, job analysis, selection and placement, training and development, organizational development, performance management, QWL, and entry level management. Further education at the doctoral level is also an option. Most positions for master's level psychologists in organizations do not require licensure. The skills required to be a successful I/O psychologist include intellectual ability, good oral and written communication skills, high career motivation, problem solving skills, and a high level of interpersonal skills.
