Mission The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences seeks to develop in each student high levels of competence in communication, analytical and critical thinking, research, and technology skills. The Department strives to prepare students to pursue graduate and professional studies in their chosen career. Goals Psychology majors will develop a sound theoretical base in the social sciences with transferable skills in critical thinking, research design, and planning and analysis of service delivery systems in health and education. General education courses will provide an introduction to the social sciences and an understanding of the human condition. General education courses are offered in History, Psychology , and Sociology. Objectives To teach students the theories, models, and paradigms in psychology. To help students understand the roles and functions of a psychologist in society. To prepare students for successful matriculation in graduate and professional studies in field of psychology . Student Outcomes Students will be able to apply theories to real life situations. Students will be able to analyze, understand, and evaluate articles from professional journals in the social and behavioral sciences. Students will be able to verbally present research findings in a clear and logical manner to an audience of their peers. Students will be able to write acceptable research papers in compliance with the standards of the American Psychological Association.
