Elmira College students who major in Economics complete a 'core' curriculum consisting of basic and intermediate-level courses in micro and macro economics and a statistics course. They select five elective courses from a variety of offerings including game theory, international economics , applied microeconomics (labor, environmental), industrial organization, econometrics, development economics, and urban economics and two electives from related disciplines (such mathematics, political science, psychology, or sociology). Finally, all Economics majors take a capstone course focusing on research in Economics . As a liberal arts discipline Economics provides an excellent background for a variety of career choices. The majority of Elmira College Economics majors pursue careers in the law, government, business, or international affairs. Other students pursue Economics in graduate school in order to become professional economists like those are hired by private and government organizations to work in fields as diverse as banking, research, government, education, and international organizations.
