The four-year degree program offered by the Department of Interior Design is fully accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (formerly FIDER). Graduates are prepared to enter the working world as professional interior designers capable of creating interior architectural environments. They also receive the academic credentials to sit for the National Council Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination upon completion of two years of work experience. Successful completion of the exam is necessary for professional membership in national and international interior design service organizations. The curriculum is comprehensive and includes courses in Institutional, residential and commercial design , the history of interior design, historic preservation, drawing, rendering, drafting, computer-aided design and drafting, construction technology, materials, furniture, color, lighting, detailing, and business practice. The Interior Design curriculum has fully integrated traditional and digital media. To facilitate this Endicott College provides state-of-the-art, network-ready laptop computers to first-year students entering the Interior Design program. All students entering the program are required to participate in this Laptop Program. The computers are fully loaded with software, protected with warranties against loss from theft or damage, and supported by on-campus technical staff with loaners available when needed. Emphasis is placed on the development of creative skills and problem-solving strategies necessary for designing within the built environment. The philosophy and principles of design are combined with three-dimensional space planning, human factors, building technology, and environmental considerations for an educational experience that balances the theoretical and practical.
