At a large facility, which is not unlike a mini-city, he or she will supervise a large staff charged with the responsibility of keeping the airport operationally safe for the airport tenants and aircraft users. He/she must serve the various stakeholders surrounding the airport, write federal grant proposals, oversee grant funded construction projects, declare that the airport meets environmental regulations, and seek professional accreditation as a Certified Member (C.M.) and Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) with organizations such as the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). Finally, the airport manager must comply with the Federal and/or State regulations to maintain the airport's operating certificate.
