Career Opportunities The Automotive Technology-Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP) is designed to prepare you to be a General Motors certified automotive technician . Trained to work on GM cars and trucks in General Motors brand dealership service departments or AC Delco certified repair facilities, you will learn to perform GM specialized diagnostics and repair. As an ASEP graduate, you are a top level technician who quickly progresses into a master technician . Accurate and proper diagnosis is your major responsibility. Most of your advanced diagnostic work is with on-vehicle computers, automatic transmissions, air conditioners, electrical systems, and engines. Program Description ASEP prepares you for the complex automotive industry. It addresses all aspects of General Motors' products and the latest technology (including online service manuals, Tech2 scanners and tools used only by GM dealerships) and develops the skills you will need as a professional automotive technician. As a graduate, you have the GM qualification needed to advance in the General Motors automotive industry, and have in-class training and hands-on experience working in a dealership with a trained mentor. Along with having national curriculum, ASEP works with GM to get the latest online and video training along with automobiles for you to work on in class. You will be 80% trained for GM World Class Technician . The areas you cover include the following: fuel injection systems, on-board diagnostics (OBDII), climate control systems, basic and advanced electrical systems, brakes and anti-lock brakes, drivelines and transmissions, steering and suspension systems, entertainment systems, and engine measurements and repair. Program Outcomes Upon completion of the ASEP program, you will be able to: Demonstrate basic positive communication skills needed for dealing with customers and others in a professional manner. Develop safe procedures and practices for all phases of service and repair of automobiles, machinery and test equipment and for handling chemicals and solvents used in repair and cleaning. Students will take and receive S/P2 safety and pollution prevention certification. Develop a working knowledge of repair manuals and computer programs used by manufacturers in the servicing of the highly technical vehicles in use today. Demonstrate technical abilities and competencies in the eight areas of automotive service excellence standards: electrical/electronic systems; automatic transmissions/transaxles; manual drive train and axles; suspension and steering; brakes; heating and air conditioning; engine performance; and engine repair.
