Career Opportunities The Automotive Technology program is designed to educate you in the practical application of automotive engineering concepts and automotive repair. This associate degree program prepares you for work as an automotive technician or service department supervisor, or advancement to university studies. Program Description The Automotive Technology program is centered around preparing you for the typical automotive service department; but the added rigor of the associate degree level classes provides you with the breadth of knowledge and well-rounded education to excel in many areas. Automotive areas covered include fuel injection systems, on-board diagnostics (OBD-11), climate control systems, basic and advanced electrical systems, brakes and anti-lock brakes, manual drivelines and transmissions, automatic transmissions, steering and suspension systems, entertainment systems, engines testing, and engine rebuilding. The program will take you two years to complete. You will enroll in auto program courses and related courses every semester. As a new student, you can enroll at semester intervals during the year as openings occur. Program Outcomes Upon successful completion of this program, you will be able to: Demonstrate basic positive communication skills needed for dealing with customers and others in a professional manner. Develop safe procedures and practices for all phases of service and repair of machinery and test equipment and for handling chemicals and solvents. Demonstrate technical abilities in interpreting manuals, computer programs and procedures provided by manufacturers in the service and repair of the highly technical, modern vehicles in use today. Demonstrate technical ability and competency in each of the eight areas of automotive service excellence standards: electrical/electronic systems; automatic transmissions/transaxles; manual drive train and axles; suspension and steering; brakes; heating and air conditioning; engine performance; and engine repair. Demonstrate and understand requirements needed to achieve "Automotive Service Excellence Certification" and the knowledge and abilities that must be obtained to achieve these goals.
