You are capable of developing and troubleshooting stand-alone or networked applications utilizing multiple communication protocols and media ranging from serial, Ethernet, wireless, to fiber. You may be employed in a position such as Instrumentation Technician, Control System Engineer, Design Engineer, Software Design Engineer or Software Designer. Program Description The CCET program provides you with a unified study of computer controlled and dedicated systems to include remote and local data acquisition, supervisory control and data acquisition, electronic test and measurement, and the programming and application of related computer-based systems and components. Device networking, communication, programming, and application are key components in the program focus. You will be exposed to hands-on development of control and interface application, integrating computer programming, networking, electronics, data communication, and real world parameter sensing. Many of your junior and senior semester courses are project-based, centered around real world applications. Program Outcomes Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will be able to: Practical application programming skills applied to computers , embedded controllers and programmable control. Broad-based understanding and application of computer hardware, operating systems, application software, internet principles, networking principles, and client-server architecture. Working knowledge and application of data acquisition principles, devices and sensors applied to data acquisition and control. Understanding of application and function of actuators and control devices applied to control systems. Application and working knowledge of network terminology, cabling, and basic functionality. Troubleshoot control systems involving computer controlled and dedicated controllers in either a networked or stand-alone configuration. Troubleshoot control circuits and systems involving data acquisition, actuators, and sensors. Apply a working knowledge of analog, digital, and power control electronic devices with the ability to troubleshoot their circuitry. Apply and troubleshoot discrete and networked PID controllers, PLCs, and sensors in data acquisition and control systems. Apply final control elements used in process control systems. Apply sensor and transducer theory of operation, configuration, and calibration principles. Apply the principles of PID control theory in temperature, pressure, level, and flow loops. Configure and program Programmable Logic Controllers manufactured by Allen Bradley and Siemens. Configure flat panel touch screens for use in control systems. Create and apply software applications using high level programming languages. Develop electronic test and measurement applications. Implement supervisory control and data acquisition using LabView, Wonderware, and Iconics industrial software. Link manufacturing data, such as controller and sensor data, images, and databases between facilities via the Internet. Troubleshoot, maintain, or install devices pertaining to process control. Troubleshoot, maintain, or install electronic test and measurement systems. Understand and apply communication protocols between computers, controllers, sensors, and smart devices. Understand and apply measurement techniques in process control systems. Understand circuits and the use of general purpose test equipment for obtaining electronic measurements. Understand embedded micro-controllers and learn to apply associated development tools. Understand PCs, operating systems, and the interaction of applications. Students will obtain the skills to repair, upgrade and reconfigure PCs. Understand the principals of calibration and NIST traceability as it applies to process measurements. Understand the types of signals used in process equipment and the cabling requirements associated with them. Working knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheets, AutoCAD, circuit simulators, circuit analysis, and technical presentation software package.
