Program Description The ECET program provides you with a solid foundation in electronics devices, computer hardware, networking topics, operating systems and computer programming. The learning emphasizes laboratory work in the actual building, programming, and interfacing of micro-controller and PC-based systems to prepare you to begin employment or continue education in the broad area of computer engineering technology, data acquisition, and networking. Program Outcomes Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will: Understand circuits and the use of multi-meters and oscilloscopes for obtaining measurements. Broad based understanding and application of computer hardware, operating systems, application software, networking principles and client-server architecture. Practical application programming skills applied to computers and embedded controllers. Working knowledge and application of data acquisition principles and devices. Working knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheets, circuit simulation, circuit analysis, and technical presentation application packages. Application and working knowledge of network terminology, cabling, and basic functionality. Ability to manufacture and test copper cabling. Preparation to pass the A+ Core Hardware & Software, and Network Certification tests. Troubleshoot computer based systems involving computer controlled and dedicated controllers in either a networked or stand-alone configuration. Students will also be trained in electrical and workplace safety. Understand embedded micro-controllers and learn to apply associated development tools. Understand PC's, operating systems and the interaction of applications. Students will obtain the skills to repair, upgrade and reconfigure PC's. Understand and apply communication networks and be able to configure devices, controllers and computers to communicate. Understand and apply communication protocol between computers, controllers, and smart devices. Create and apply software applications using high level programming languages.
