Program Description Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic is a 1,150-hour diploma program that consists of 648 hours of classroom instruction, 504 hours of hospital clinical, and 288 hours of field clinical. This program will train you to respond on an advanced-level care ambulance as an integral member of the pre-hospital emergency care team. You will be able to provide efficient and immediate emergency pre-hospital care to the ill or injured, and continue that care during transport to a medical facility. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic written and practical examinations in order to be licensed as an EMT-P in Wisconsin. Topics you study include patient assessment, advanced airway management, medical emergencies, nebulizer, administration of glucagon/50 percent dextrose, narcan, cardiac drugs, intravenous therapy, blood sugar evaluation, cardiac rhythm interpretation, advanced care of trauma, infants and children, operations, and clinical/field experience. Program Outcomes Function in an advanced level of prehospital emergency care doing the following: in?depth assessment of patients, basic EKG interpretation, in-depth cardiac and respiratory assessment skills, in-depth care of trauma/medical patients using advanced airway management skills and IV therapy skills, with greater scope of responsibility with administration of IV medications and solutions. Functions under advanced protocols for emergency patient care. Possesses higher level of critical thinking and decision making skills in the provision of prehospital care and in selected emergency room settings. Take a leadership role at the emergency scene as the highest level of emergency care provider present. Makes inter-facility transfers of patients with defined protocols. Provide pediatric emergency care specialty skills, I.e. intubation, interosseous infusions and defibrillation. Prepared to take and be successful on the National Registry of EMT-Paramedics exam.
