Galen College of Nursing recognizes previous knowledge of students entering the LPN/VN to RN Bridge program option in order to foster career mobility for individuals who have successfully completed a practical/vocational nursing program. Upon earning a grade of 'C' or higher in NUR 275, the student will be awarded 20 quarter credit hours for prior learning in a practical/vocational nursing program. Content for credit awarded upon completion of NUR 275 is in the areas of nursing fundamentals, basic and advanced medical/surgical nursing , mental health, and growth and development. Graduates of this program will receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing upon successful completion of program requirements. Didactic classroom learning will be reinforced by hands-on practice in our clinical learning laboratory utilizing highly specialized models and mannequins to simulate clinical situations. In addition, students will participate in clinical experiences appropriate to course work where they will further their experiences as well as theory application to the clinical setting. Clinical Judgment - Incorporate clinical judgment to provide accurate, safe individualized care that moves individuals, families and communities with alterations in functional health patterns and assists them toward positive health outcomes. Client Advocacy - Advocate for quality health care by promoting relevant concepts of personal autonomy and self-determination for all clients, families, and communities when in their best interest. Cultural Competence - Incorporate knowledge and respect for client's culture and spirituality while providing care for clients, families, and communities from diverse cultures with alterations in functional health patterns. Teaching and Learning - Implement relevant teaching and learning strategies designed to achieve positive health outcomes for self, clients, families, and communities. Professional Behaviors - Provide competent professional nursing care to meet the diverse needs of clients, families, and communities in a variety of health care settings by practicing within relevant legal, ethical, and regulatory frameworks and engaging in pertinent educational development.
