Program Overview The Nursing Assistant curriculum prepares individuals to work under the supervision of licensed health care professionals in performing nursing care and services for persons of all ages. Course work emphasizes growth and development throughout the life span, personal care , vital signs, communication, nutrition, medical asepsis, therapeutic activities, accident and fire safety, household environment and equipment management; family resources and services; and employment skills. After successful completion of NAS 101, graduates will be eligible to take the state certification exam. Successful completion of NAS 102 will allow graduates to be listed as NA II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing . They may be employed in home health agencies, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, extended care facilities, and doctors' offices. Career Outline Program Outcomes Students will demonstrate knowledge of the role and scope of practice of the nursing assistant I in North Carolina. Students will demonstrate mastery of skills required by the Division of Facility Services and the North Carolina Community College System for education of nurse aides in North Carolina. Students will demonstrate mastery of skills and awareness of scope of practice for nurse aide II???s in North Carolina. Students will demonstrate mastery of skills required by the North Carolina Community College System and the North Carolina Board of Nursing for Nursing Assistant II education in the State of North Carolina. Students will demonstrate mastery of skills required to successfully practice as a medication aide in North Carolina. Students will demonstrate knowledge of the role of the medication aide in North Carolina and awareness of the scope of practice of the medication aide in North Carolina.
