Overview Whereas much knowledge is departmentally fragmented, history courses examine the development and interrelationships of events, institutions, and ideas. Depending on the specific course (see descriptive listings of particular courses below), history courses examine the evolution of political, economic, social and religious institutions; international relations and diplomacy; science and technology; ideas, aesthetics and literature; and other social and cultural subjects. In each course students examine a significant body of material, analyze its validity and credibility, its causes and effects, its historical importance, and communicate their conclusions effectively. The History Department encourages student leadership in Phi Alpha Theta History Fraternity, and outstanding students may have opportunities for internships in Kentucky state libraries and archives.
