Modern Language/German majors will recognize and acknowledge the contributions and global impact of the target culture historically, geographically, politically, and economically. 4. Modern Language/German majors will demonstrate culturally appropriate behaviors and aspects of Germany's culture's daily lifestyle. 5. Modern Language/German majors will demonstrate the ability to access the target language and culture through printed materials, electronic information systems, and other current technologies and utilize these to enhance learning of the target language and culture. 6. Modern Language/German majors will know how to gain access to opportunities abroad, obtain authentic materials from German culture, make linkages with community resources in the target language and culture, and advocate the importance of foreign language skills and cultural awareness in an interdependent world with a global economy. EXPECTED PROFICIENCY RESULTS GLOBAL Modern Language/German majors will have a basic knowledge of the country or countries to which German is native, and 60% of the time, will be able to understand and be understood by a native speaker who is unaccustomed to communicating with non-native speakers, readers, and writers of German. SPEAKING Modern Language/German majors are able to initiate, continue, and close informal conversations. Modern Language/German majors are able to speak on a variety of topics.
