The Department of Mass Communication is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) since 1993. The mission of the Department of Mass Communication is to provide an intellectual climate that prepares students to be responsible citizens with a broad understanding of the role and responsibility of a media professional in society. It includes providing an opportunity for the student to carve out a professional career in the broad field of mass communication. The mission also incorporates providing knowledge, research, and practical experiences that promote among students an appreciation and understanding of a multicultural society. In pursuance of the mission, the Department of Mass Communication has the following objectives: 1. provide a broad understanding of the role of communication and mass media in society; 2. prepare students for careers in the areas of mass communication - print journalism, broadcasting, public relations, and visual communication; 3. offer services to the community through workshops, seminars, and media facilities; 4. provide an intellectual climate for students to think critically of issues related to mass media at the regional, national, and global levels; and 5. provide an understanding of the importance of personal and mediated intercultural interaction as an avenue to succeed in a multicultural society.
