The objective of this pre-nursing program is to provide students with a strong foundation in basic nursing skills in preparation for positions on the health care team as a Nursing Assistant, a Geriatric Aide , Orderly, and/or Home Health Care Assistant. The students will be trained for entry level employment in a variety of settings: nursing homes, hospitals, home health care services, hospices, group homes, rehabilitation centers, and assisted living. This program has been developed with the cooperation of nurses and other professionals currently active in the health care industry. This program provides the students with an introduction to the fundamentals of nursing necessary to be successful if the student decides to enter advanced nursing programs. It integrates career development into the curriculum to help prepare students for success in the work place. The course work has been divided into segments of lecture, LAB, and clinical practice in order to have easy transition from theory to application of nursing skills. One hundred eighty hours of clinical practice is required with a minimum of forty hours in a geriatric long term care facility.
