Art from Hamilton College Clinton is a Campus Bachelor Study of Art degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. A SOCIETY'S ARTISTS MAY BE ITS HISTORIANS, its philosophers, its priests and confessors, its outlaws or its visionaries. Art may document the artist's world, it may imagine the past or future, or it may express an inner landscape that cannot otherwise be shared. At Hamilton, student and faculty artists explore this rich dynamic by both creating and critiquing works of visual art. RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES Many art majors take advantage of Hamilton's extensive study-abroad programs to spend their junior year in Italy, France, Spain, Great Britain or elsewhere. The adventure of studying great art in its own cultural setting, and of developing one's own skills and vision at the same time, can be a transforming experience for young artists. In a broader way, the process and discipline of the workshop is a young artist's day-to-day "research." Intensive workshop experience is a central element of most art courses at Hamilton, as students work closely with instructors and one another to express and expand their creative and critical powers while developing technical skills in a variety of media. THE SENIOR PROGRAM All senior art majors embark on a two-semester senior project. The project involves the independent development of a series of creative works based on a central theme or idea. The culmination of the year's work is the annual spring exhibition of all senior projects in Hamilton's Emerson Gallery. More ... RESOURCES The College's List Art Center and neighboring facilities house studios and workshops for ceramics, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, metals, painting and photography.
