Dialysis Technician from Health Opportunity Technical Center is a Campus Certificate Medicine degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Dialysis Technician Program Description The 600 clock hour program is designed to prepare students for employment as a Dialysis Technician. This course provides training to the student in techniques of operating the appropriate medical equipment for assisting with the performing of dialysis on the patient. The student will receive training on monitoring of the dialysis patients. The student will study the Renal System comprehensively. This course teaches the legal and ethical responsibilities of the Dialysis Technician Dialysis Technician as it relates to care of the patient. The student may receive a Diploma of completion with the satisfactory completion of the Core curriculum and Dialysis and will be eligible to sit the certifying examination. The prerequisite Health Science Core is included in the program. To begin this program the student must successfully complete the school's entrance exam. Dialysis Technician Program Occupational Outcomes This program is designed to prepare students for employment as a Dialysis Technician. The content will include communication, interpersonal skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, renal health and illness concepts, hemodialysis skills and emergency procedures, including CPR and first aid. The curriculum will include safety and security procedures, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and employability skills. Clinical and laboratory experiences will be incorporated into the program. Dialysis Technician Program Objectives Upon completion of this program the student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate knowledge of the health care delivery system and health occupations. 2. Demonstrate the ability to communicate and use interpersonal skills effectively. 3. Demonstrate knowledge of the hemodialysis technician's legal and ethical responsibilities including HIPAA. 4. Demonstrate an understanding of and apply wellness and disease concepts. 5. Recognize and practice safety and security procedures including domestic violence. 6. Recognize and respond to emergency situations including BLS-CPR. 7. Recognize and practice infection control procedures including OSHA. 8. Demonstrate computer skills. 9. Demonstrate employability skills. 10. Demonstrate knowledge of blood borne diseases, including AIDS. 11. Apply basic math and science skills. 12. Demonstrate accepted professional, communication, and interpersonal skills specific to the dialysis setting. 13. Identify normal and abnormal structure and function of body systems in relations to services performed by the dialysis technician. 14. Apply knowledge acquired on use of equipment and supplies specific to dialysis. 15. Demonstrate ability to perform dialysis technician duties. 16. Practice infection control procedures during laboratory and clinical practice utilizing universal precaution including OSHA. 17. Practice accepted procedures of transporting specimens. 18.
