Non-profit, also known as voluntary agencies are the youth serving agencies within the community. You may have the opportunity in public recreation to work with the local, state or federal park systems in a variety of positions such as a program director, park director, or recreation director. The non-profit or voluntary agencies serving youth in a community could include the YMCA, YWCA, Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H or religious organizations that provide recreation centers and programming. Careers in commercial recreation may be found with any business that provides the facility for the leisure experience, the product, service or equipment to the consumer. Such businesses could include theme and amusement parks, resorts, theatres, campgrounds, professional sports, health clubs, golf courses, racquet clubs, bowling alleys, skating rinks, and outfitter stores.
