Program Information: The study of mass communication at Illinois Central College is designed to provide the student with a well-rounded education in both the practical and theoretical aspects of communication through the mass media . The program is designed for the student planning to transfer to a four-year college and pursue a career in broadcasting, webcasting, advertising, film production, or other related area. Students not planning transfer may be able to find employment opportunities upon completion of only the two-year degree . Four of the program courses include substantial "hands-on" experience with professional video, audio, and computer equipment in a studio or lab setting. In addition to the mass communication courses we offer, students enrolled in the program should consider courses in general communication, multimedia, marketing, theatre, or journalism as electives. Elective credit may also be available through MCOMM 160 and 260 which provide credit to students interning at a local media outlet working on telecasts of ICC sporting events or through working on the student-produced cable television programs, ICC Underground. Students may follow the standard course sequence or one of four program "tracks" targeting one of the following areas of interest with in mass communication: Mass Media Production, Digital Filmmaking, Announcing/News & Sportscasting, or Media Sales & Management.
