Our graduates typically function as academics, practitioners, and researchers in medical centers and multi-disciplinary clinical settings. Research training is an important aspect of your education. At IIT, you will be educated in the scientific process of psychological research. Such training begins in the first year working with faculty on their projects and continues through conducting your own research. This will prepare you to present posters and papers at conferences, which provide valuable experience and professional contacts. Research activities are normally conducted with your advisor, but you may also work with other clinical and non-clinical faculty members. You also have the flexibility to change your primary research mentor if your interests change during the course of training. Clinical practicum experiences will prepare you for work as a clinician and provide you with valuable contacts in the field. They also allow you to develop your clinical expertise under the supervision of our faculty and to learn skills that cannot be taught in a classroom. Your practica will take place at general and specialized clinical sites throughout the Chicago area. Recent placements include the Northwestern University Medical School, Children's Memorial Hospital, Rush Medical Center, and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. An APA-accredited internship culminates your training as a practitioner. This year-long experience will allow the integration of your graduate experience while providing you with valuable "real world" experience. Recent placements include various Veteran's Administration Medical Centers, the University of Chicago, Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, and Allendale Association/Bradley Counseling Center. Rehabilitation Track You also have the option of specializing in the Rehabilitation track of the Clinical program.
