Description: The University offers a bachelor of arts (B.A.) and a bachelor of science (B.S.) in science education . The Science Education Program prepares students for licensure to teach in junior high, middle school, and high school. The program leads to teaching licensure in one or more of the following areas: biology, chemistry, earth space science, or physics. Science Education is an interdisciplinary program. The program contains three components: A science core A concentration in one (or more) of the following areas: biology, chemistry, earth space science, and physics Professional education courses Science education students receive extensive experience teaching in classroom settings, and participate in practical experiences at the middle school and high school levels. Students have the opportunity to contribute articles to The Hoosier Science Teacher , published by the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc?and to participate, assist, or mentor at activities such as: Camp Invention, an ISU summer camp for children Indiana Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, held on the ISU campus Indiana Regional High School Science Bowl (held on the ISU campus) Indiana Regional Middle School Science Bowl (held on the ISU campus) Annual conventions of the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers , Inc. Hoosier Riverwatch Program sponsored by the Fish and Wildlife Service of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Summer Science Camp, an ISU camp for children Students may become members of the Indiana Student Education Association, a social and professional organization for tomorrow's teachers. Together with the support of other local, state, and national chapters, the organization provides opportunities for professional development as an outstanding teacher . Careers: There is a critical need for science teachers in junior high schools, middle schools, and high schools?both in Indiana and throughout the United States.
