Since the primary career for graduates of the M.A.T. program is teaching in secondary schools, the program is designed to: (1) permit a secondary school teacher with minimum training in chemistry to achieve certification for the teaching major in chemistry in the secondary school (2) allow teachers already holding certification in chemistry to strengthen their training by taking advanced lecture and laboratory work in chemistry (3) grant students with B.A. or B.S. degrees in chemistry , but with no education courses, to complete requirements for a secondary Indiana teaching certificate and strengthen their chemistry training.
