Program Description This 24.0 Semester Credit Hour (720 clock hours) program requires 30 weeks of training (days) and 40 weeks of training (nights) and provides the necessary knowledge and skills to compete in today's accounting industry. The program is designed to provide ?hands-on? training with today's most popular office software Microsoft Office, along with the accounting computer programs of Peachtree and QuickBooks are used to teach computerized accounting . Students will also learn Payroll Procedures and to prepare State and Federal income forms. Students will have the skills and knowledge to meet the hiring standards of an entry-level bookkeeping professional. At the end of the classroom training component of the program, students will complete a 96 hour externship, providing the students with ?on the job? unpaid training to enhance their classroom training. Students may elect to take either BTA 105, BTA 106, or BTA107 instead of externship completion to meet graduation requirements. Program Objectives The program is designed to provide students with training in Microsoft Office with Word, Excel, and Access, PowerPoint, and is specially designed to teach bookkeeping; therefore, preparing students for a more specialized career in accounts receivable/payables, payroll, or other areas of accounting. The program suits the need of those who are currently employed in the field as well as those who are interested in beginning a new career in the profession. Students also learn the fundamentals of preparing State and Federal income tax returns.
