The curriculum consists of courses in music theory, ear training and sight singing, music history, hymnology, conducting, congregational song leading, and primary and secondary performance proficiency. Mission The mission of the Music Department at IBC is to equip students to glorify God by serving in local churches in teaching, performing, writing, and arranging music and administrating music programs. Purposes The purposes of the church music program at International Baptist College are as follows: 1. To teach submission to God's Word and His will in areas of personal and professional training. 2. To develop an awareness of the divisive musical issues confronting churches and a Biblical pattern for musical unity within the local church. 3. To develop an awareness of areas of service to the local church through music. 4. To develop a grasp of administrative tools that aid the music programs of the local church. Aims The aims of the Music Department of IBC are to help students achieve the above stated Purposes and Mission by assuring that the student will demonstrate 1. an understanding and appreciation of the historical background of our Western culture of music , 2. an understanding and appreciation of the historical background of the international body of Protestant hymnody, 3. a working knowledge in the historical "common practice" period of music theory (from the late Baroque through the late Romantic periods), and an acquaintance of early music practice and twentieth century techniques, and 4. the ability to perform proficiently on one or more instruments.
