The Judson College Social Work Program will prepare confident and capable entry-level social workers for generalist practice and encourage lifelong personal, professional, and spiritual growth. Graduates of Judson's BSW Program become eligible for advanced standing in an MSW program. The Bachelor of Social Work Program will educate and empower students to respond to the various needs of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, living in poverty, and will particularly highlight the diverse needs of the Black Belt. To Serve: What better place than a women's Christian college, to have a selfless yet self-fulfilling "mission" field that promotes service to all in need. Judson realizes that Jesus is the true "Social Worker"; but what a service to Him to live, not only our personal lives, but professional lives as well, in service to Him and those in need. By graduation, our BSW students will have demonstrated: Identification as a professional Social Worker - knowledge of the historical co-development of social welfare, evidence of self-reflection and self-correction, ability to respond appropriately to professional boundaries, an interest in career long learning and effective use of supervision. Evidence of critical thinking - ability to apply the social work values and ethics to common practice standards; effective communication skills both orally and written; ability to find and evaluate sources of professional and case-related information, etc. Engagement with issues of diversity and difference - awareness of the impact of culture on oppression and on the differential advantage/disadvantages available to groups in society; ability to engage with and critical review of their personal bias, and ability to view self as a learner of client systems. Awareness and respect for human rights and social and economic justice Effective use of research in their practice Ability to apply principles and theories of human behavior in the social environment in the classroom and in student practice.
