Audio Engineering from Kansas City Kansas Community College is a Campus Associate Communication Technologies degree that prepares you for a Communications career. The goal of the Audio Engineering Program is to prepare our students for an entry level engineering position in the varied fields of the audio industry and/or to enable them to transfer to a 4-year degree in a related field. We emphasize hands-on experiential training on audio technologies and equipment used in the recording studio environment, while assuring students also understand essential audio theory and have training in and an understanding of traditional musical skills and concepts. Our curriculum produces a versatile audio professional, prepared with the necessary skills and knowledge that will enable him/her to transition to work in variety of audio industry fields; to communicate with musicians in a recording studio or live sound environment; and to work in a non-musical audio field, for example broadcasting and corporate sound. The Audio Engineering facilities at KCKCC include three state-of-the-art recording/mixing studios, a computer/MIDI lab, and an impressive live sound reinforcement system. Our facilities are open on evenings and weekends to allow students to work on school projects. Students frequently transfer to 4-year degree programs in related fields, and we have transfer and articulation agreements in place with several universities. Our students are employed both locally and nationally at live music venues, churches, and recording studios; with music retailers; at television and radio stations; telecommunications companies; and music business and administration companies.
