History at Kansas City Kansas Community College introduces students to an array of peoples, time periods, and regions. Students examine a wide range of subjects from early cultures, from ancient and classical civilizations, and from the modern world. Topics, which are drawn from the entire map of human experiences, include creativity, belief, conflict, identity, innovation, ordinary life and power. Students learn historical literacy. They learn to evaluate evidence, to examine contexts, to identify changes and continuities, and to assume complexity. They encounter traditional and new approaches to historical subjects, and they are introduced to historiography. Students who already believe that the study of the past is interesting and meaningful will be encouraged. For other students, history at the college will open up new worlds of knowledge and understanding. The American Historical Association in its Careers for Students of History, identifies seven careers in history: "classrooms', 'museums', 'editing and publishing', 'archives', 'historic preservation', 'federal, state and local history', and 'consultants and contractors'.
