Geology Master from Kansas State University details

Program Format: Campus Program Level: Master

Geology from Kansas State University is a Campus Master Geology degree that prepares you for a Science career. The Geology Department offers the M.S. degree in geology. This is widely considered today as being the entry-level degree for graduates expecting to make a career in geology . It is also excellent preparation for further studies leading to the Ph.D. degree , for those students planning a career in research or academics. We offer two tracks toward this degree. Most common is the thesis option, where a student will research and report an extensive project, earning 6 credit hours toward the 30 required. In rare cases a student will complete a report option, involving a shorter, 2-credit-hour project but additional course work. Students in residence holding assistantships are required to follow the thesis option, while students commuting from full-time professional employment may use the report option. Students in residence and fully supported by their employers or foreign governments may select either option, although the thesis option is highly recommended. Students may select any project that corresponds closely enough to one of our faculty member's expertise that he or she feels comfortable supervising it. Sometimes a faculty member may suggest a project that would be eligible for funding under his or her research grant. It is strongly recommended that a prospective student contact one or more faculty members to see what sorts of projects might be appropriate, and whether funds are available to cover major expenses such as field work or extensive analytical procedures.
