Institutional Mission Statement: The court reporting program will prepare students for careers as official, freelance, or Congressional reporters, closed captionists, or real-time writers by teaching eight levels of computer-compatible machine shorthand with the following accompanying academic subjects: English Grammar, Spelling, Vocabulary, Advanced Punctuation, Law, Legal Terminology, Court Reporting Procedures, Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Keyboarding, Technical and Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Keyboarding, Technical and Medical Dication/Transcription, Multi-Voice Dictation, Computer-Assisted Transcription, including Real-Time writing and editing (utilizing state-of-the-art court reporting software technology). The court reporting program is a comprehensive course designed to teach students the skills and abilities essential to providing professional and accurate court reporting transcripts in all of the above-listed occupations. Graduates of this program will be able to communicate and interact effectively with both the legal community and the CART community while observing confidentiality for the client's rights. They will be proficient in writing machine shorthand at 225 WPM testimony, 200 WPM jury charge, and 180 WPM literary. They will be able to produce professional and accurate transcripts, including technical and medical, in a timely manner. They will be able to apply the National Court Reporters Association Rules and Ethics to various job-related issues. The administration, faculty, and staff are committed to providing "excellence in education in court reporting" to each and every student. This is accomplished through positive reinforcement, a structured classroom environment, and utilization of the most current resources available in the training of court reporting students.
